How bank wire payouts work

A bank wire is a transfer from the firm's bank or payment provider to your bank account. International wires usually travel over the SWIFT network, and you provide details such as your full name, your account number or IBAN, your bank's SWIFT or BIC code and sometimes your bank's address.

Wires commonly take a few business days to arrive after the firm sends them, and they can pass through one or more intermediary banks along the way. Each bank in the chain may deduct a fee, and your own bank may charge to receive the payment, so the amount that arrives can be lower than the payout amount.

If the payout is sent in a currency other than your account currency, your bank converts it, often at a rate that includes a margin. Ask your bank which currencies it accepts and at what rate. The account should be in your own name to match the firm's identity checks, and banks may ask about the source of incoming funds.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a bank wire payout take?

It varies. After the firm processes the request, international wires commonly arrive within a few business days, but weekends, holidays, intermediary banks and compliance checks can add time. Check the firm's stated processing time as well.

Why did I receive less than my payout amount?

Intermediary banks and your own bank can deduct fees, and currency conversion can reduce the amount further. Ask your bank about incoming wire fees and conversion rates, and check whether the firm passes on any sending fees.

Can I receive a bank wire into someone else's account?

Firms generally require the receiving account to be in the same name as the verified trader. Payouts to third-party accounts are often refused, so use an account in your own name.
