What cTrader is

cTrader is a trading platform developed by Spotware, a financial technology company that licenses it to brokers and prop firms. It is mainly used for forex and CFDs and is available as a desktop application, a web platform and mobile apps, with settings that can sync across devices.

Traders often choose it for its charting, detachable chart windows and a depth of market display that shows the volume available at each price. Order entry supports market, limit and stop orders with stop loss and take profit set up front, along with options such as trailing stops.

Automation runs through cTrader's algorithmic trading tools, where trading robots called cBots and custom indicators are written in C#, a common general-purpose programming language. That suits traders with programming experience. Before buying, check whether the firm allows cBots, how its cTrader setup connects to its own systems, and which symbols and commissions apply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use cBots on a prop firm cTrader account?

It depends on the firm. Some allow automated trading freely, others limit it or ban certain strategies such as high-frequency trading. Read the firm's rules on bots and trade copying before running one on a challenge or funded account.

Is cTrader suitable for beginners?

Many traders find its layout easy to learn, and the web and mobile versions need no installation. Beginners still need to understand order types, position sizing and the firm's loss limits, which matter more than the platform choice.

Can I move my MetaTrader indicators to cTrader?

No, they are not compatible. cTrader uses C# for its indicators and cBots, so you would need a cTrader version of each tool or have it rewritten. Many common indicators are already built in.
