Forex prop firms with 2-step challenges

A two-step challenge splits the evaluation into two phases. You reach a profit target in the first phase, then a usually smaller target in the second, staying within the loss limits throughout. It is a common format among forex and CFD firms, and every program listed here uses it.

How a two-step challenge works

Phase one usually has the larger profit target and phase two a smaller one, with the daily and maximum loss limits often the same in both. Passing phase one gives you a new account for phase two, and passing that leads to the funded account. Each phase may have its own minimum trading days and, on some programs, its own time limit.

Spreading the evaluation over two phases lowers the target you need in any single stretch and, on many programs, comes with a static maximum loss and a wider loss buffer than a one-step. The cost is time and a second chance to breach: a strong first phase can still be undone by a poor run in the second.

Before buying, add the two targets together and compare the total with the maximum loss, check whether the limits reset between phases, and see whether minimum trading days apply to each phase. Look at whether the fee is refunded with a payout and how long the firm takes to issue the next account after you pass a phase.

Frequently asked questions

Do the loss limits reset in phase two?

On most programs phase two starts with a new account at the original balance, with the loss limits measured from that balance again. Check the program rules, since some firms use different limits or a different daily loss calculation in the second phase.

Is a two-step challenge cheaper than a one-step?

Fees vary by firm and account size, so the evaluation type alone does not decide the price. Compare the fee for the size you want against the targets, the loss limits and any refund on each program.

How long does a two-step challenge take?

It depends on the minimum trading days in each phase and on how quickly you reach the targets. Many programs have no deadline, while others set a time limit for each phase or for both phases combined.
