Allowed with conditions
These firms allow it with limits, such as a blackout window or an add-on. Open a firm for the exact wording.
What news trading rules cover
High-impact releases can move prices sharply in seconds, widen spreads and cause slippage. Some prop firms restrict trading around them because simulated fills at those moments may not reflect what a live market would give. The usual restrictions are a no-trading window of a few minutes either side of the release, or a rule that removes or caps profit from trades inside that window.
Where news trading is allowed without limits, you can hold positions through a release or trade the reaction. That suits strategies built around macro events and removes the risk of breaking a rule simply because a trade was open at the wrong minute. Spreads and slippage still apply, though, and a fast move can take an account through its daily loss limit.
Rules often differ by stage. A firm may allow news trading in the evaluation and restrict it on the funded account, or apply a restriction only to certain programs. Before buying, check which releases count, how wide the window is, whether it covers opening, closing and pending orders, and whether it applies to every instrument or only those affected by the release.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as news trading?
Most firms mean opening or closing trades within a short window around high-impact scheduled releases, usually the events marked as highest impact on an economic calendar. Some firms publish their own list of restricted events.
What does allowed with limits mean?
The firm permits news trading only under conditions, such as a blackout window around releases, a cap on profit from news trades, or a restriction that applies only on funded or instant accounts. Those firms are shown in a separate group on this page.
Can I hold a position through a news release?
At firms that allow news trading, generally yes. At firms with limits, holding may be allowed while opening or closing is not, or the reverse. Read the exact wording, since breaking a news rule can cost the profit from that trade or the account.
