What TradingView is

TradingView is a charting and social platform used by a very large number of traders across forex, futures, stocks and crypto. It runs in a web browser, as a desktop app and on mobile, and is known for fast, flexible charts, a wide set of drawing tools and a community library of indicators and strategies.

TradingView does not hold trading accounts itself. Trading happens through a broker or platform that is connected to it, so you place and manage orders from the chart while the firm's own system executes them. Some prop firms connect TradingView directly, and others link it through a trading platform they already use.

Custom indicators and strategies are written in Pine Script, which can backtest ideas and send alerts but does not place orders at a broker on its own. Traders who automate usually send alerts to outside tools through webhooks. Before buying, check whether the firm allows that, which order types work from the chart, and whether any features or data you need require a paid TradingView plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a paid TradingView plan to trade with a prop firm?

Not always. Basic chart trading may work on a free plan, but more indicators per chart, extra alerts, webhooks and some real-time exchange data, especially for futures, can require a paid plan. Check what the firm's setup needs before you buy.

Can I automate trades from TradingView alerts?

TradingView alerts can trigger webhooks, and some traders use outside services to turn those into orders. Many prop firms restrict or ban this kind of automation, so read the firm's rules and ask support before connecting any third-party tool.

Is TradingView the same as the firm's own platform?

Not quite. TradingView supplies the charts and order panel, while the firm's platform or broker connection handles execution, account balances and rule checks. Your loss limits and statistics are usually tracked in the firm's dashboard, not in TradingView.
